Mortgage Lending

Neighborhood Nexus downloads its mortgage lending data from the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) website. HMDA requires institutions to report certain characteristics of the loans they make. This is a very rich data set that contains a variety of information about home mortgages, such as loan amount, type of loan, the number of loans, etc. These data answer the following questions:

  • Is there a lot of loan activity in my community?
  • In which areas are the biggest loans being originated?
  • Does my community have a lot of subprime mortgages?
