Population Data

Every year, ARC produces population estimates at the census tract level for the 20-county area (beginning in 2005, using the 2000 Census as a benchmark). For more information about how ARC estimates the population, please see their Website.
Currently, there are two measures in this indicator set:

Housing Data

ARC, as part of its population estimates program, also produces housing unit estimates which include a count of total housing units, count by type of housing unit (single-family, multi-family and mobile home), and a count of the number of households (occupied housing units). Currently, there are 10 measures in this indicator set:
- Number of Housing Units
- Number of Households (occupied housing units)
- Occupancy rate
- Household size
- Single-family units
- Percent of all housing units that are Single-family
- Multi-family units

Employment Data

ARC produces employment estimates at the TAZ (Traffic Analysis Zone) level each year for each of 21 common employment sectors. ARC receives its data from the Georgia Department of Labor.
There are currently 27 measures in this indicator set, too numerous to list here. The measures include an employment estimate for each of 21 major "NAICS" sectors (see glossary for definitions) as well as the number and percent of jobs within the five highest-paying and lowest paying sectors.
Vacancy Data

Most recent year: 2009 (Quarter 4)
Each quarter the USPS collects vacancy data on each address in their master address list and HUD (Housing and Urban Development) then aggregates these data to the census tract level.
There are currently eight measures for this indicator set:
- Total number of residential addresses
- Total number of residential addresses that are vacant
- Total number of residential addresses that are "no-stat" (essentially temporary vacancies)
- Total number of vacant residential addresses (adding up vacant and "no-stat")
- Total number of resedential addresses vacant for more than 24 months
- Residential vacancy rate (number of vacant addresses/number of total addresses)
- Total residential vacancy rate (number of vacant and "no stat" addresses/total number of addresses)
- Percent of vacancies that have been vacant for more than 24 months
Education Data

Every March, most students in grades 1st through 8th take the CRCT (Criterion-Referenced Competency Test) across a range of subjects, including reading and math. Data are included on this site for 1st grade reading, 3rd grade reading and 8th grade math.
There are currently nine measures for this indicator set for each grade:
- Number students taking the test
- Number not meeting the standard
- Percent not meeting the standard
- Number meeting the standard
- Percent meeting the standard
- Number exceeding the standard
- Percent exceeding the standard
- Number meeting or exceeding the standard
- Percent meeting or exceeding the standard

Mortgage Lending Data
The Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) requires certain mortgage lending institutions to compile and disclose data about loans.

There are 10 seperate measures based on 2008 HMDA data, including:
- Number of loans originated in 2008 (1st-lien loans, owner-occupied, for home purchase of 1 to 4 family dwellings)
- Number of subprime loans originated in 2008 (1st-lien loans, owner-occupied, for home purchase of 1 to 4 family dwellings)
- Percent of subprime loans originated in 2008 (1st-lien loans, owner-occupied, for home purchase of 1 to 4 family dwellings)
- Number of loans originated, 2006-2008 (aggregated) (1st-lien loans, owner-occupied, for home purchase of 1 to 4 family dwellings)
- Number of subprime loans originated, 2006-2008 (aggregated) (1st-lien loans, owner-occupied, for home purchase of 1 to 4 family dwellings)
- Percent of subprime loans originated, 2006-2008 (aggregated) (1st-lien loans, owner-occupied, for home purchase of 1 to 4 family dwellings)
- Number of investor loans, 2006-2008 (aggregated) (1st-lien loans for home purchase of 1 to 4 family dwellings that will not be occupied by the owner)
- Percent of investor loans that were subprime, 2006-2008 (aggregated) (1st-lien loans for home purchase of 1 to 4 family dwellings that will not be occupied by the owner)
- Percent of all loans for investment, 2006-2008 (aggregated) (1st-lien loans for home purchase of 1 to 4 family dwellings that will not be occupied by the owner)

Resident-Worker Characteristics (Where Workers Live)

A program in developed in a partnership between the U.S. Census Bureau and state labor departments, OnTheMap data gives characteristics of those workers who live in a particular area.
There are 13 separate measures in this data set:
- Total Workers
- Workers age 30 and under
- Workers age 31 to 54
- Workers age 55 and older
- Workers earning under $1,200/month
- Workers earning between $1,200 - $3,400/month
- Workers earning between more than $3,400/month
- Percent of Workers age 30 and under

Land Development

ARC interprets aerial photography to classify how the region is developed. Although some 25 land classification categories are used, the data presented here combines these into five overall categories.
